OCT 29: Inauguration of Hotel Villa del Sol ofrenda and exhibition, sale and silent auction, 7:30 pm - Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. New Local Craft Co-op Group, “The Mothers’ of the Students at Nueva Creación School” will hold an exhibition, sale and silent auction in conjunction with the celebration at Hotel Villa Del Sol. Fabric Art, Embroidery, Quilted and Beaded Embellished “Día de los Muertos” pieces will be on exhibit in the show room in the La Cantina Bar & Grill. OCT 29 - NOV 12: Exhibition of “Day of the Dead” ofrenda remembering Mahatma Gandhi exhibiting Folk Art Pieces by Jose A. Madrazo at “La Cantina” in Hotel Villa Del Sol. Opening Reception Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 7:30 pm. Exhibit runs through Saturday, November 12, 2005.

NOV 1: ZIH Galeria Celebrates Five Year Anniversary -Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. ZIH Galeria located on Juan N Alvarez, behind the pier in central Zihuatanejo has been hosting well known Mexican and International artists with regular exhibitions for five years; they will celebrate with a cocktail party and exhibition, with frequent rotating exhibitions throughout the season.

NOV 1-2: Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) - Nationwide. The most colorful annual festival on the Mexican calendar, commemorating departed loved ones. During this festival, the dead have divine permission to visit friends and relatives on earth. The living welcome the souls of the departed with offerings incorporating their favorite foods and beverages, as well as marigolds and candles. The Day of the Dead celebration is particularly memorable in the states of Oaxaca and Michoacan, as well as in Mexico City.

NOV 2-10: Cultural Week in Zihuatanejo - Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. Zihuatanejo hosts a series of cultural events that promote the region’s cultural heritage, including a book fair, ballet folklorico, story-telling and a handicrafts exposition.

NOV 7,8,9: Total Tag and Release Fishing Tournament - Ixtapa -Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. Annual International fishing tournament that promotes tag and release in sportfishing, www.ixtapsportfishing.com for more information.

NOV 12-16: XVII International Musical Festival of Morelia (XVII Festival Internacional de Musica de Morelia Miguel Bernal Jimenez) -Morelia, Michoacan. Created in 1989 and named after Mexico’s famous composer Miguel Bernal Jimenez, this annual festival features performances by musicians from all over the world and takes place at beautiful settings throughout Morelia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. http://www.festivalmorelia.com

NOV 20: Mexican Revolution Day (Dia de la Revolucion Mexicana) - Nationwide. This day marks the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution of 1910, with parades and celebrations occurring throughout the country.

NOV 24: Thanksgiving Day, Restaurant Coconuts 25th year of making roast tom turkey dinner - Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. Central Zihuatanejo 755-554-2518 for reservations.

Nov 27: Art Exhibition Opening, Collective Art show of print making, drawing, engraving from “Tixtlarte” artists – Restaurant Coconuts, Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. “Tixtlarte” is an artist collective from Tixtla in Northern Guerrero, with members including Nicolas de Jesus, showing their collection entitled “La Parota, una lucha por la madre tierra,” “Struggle for mother earth,” Sunday 7pm, at Restaurant Coconuts in central Zihuatanejo.

Late November TBA: Balsas River Nautical Marathon (Maraton Nautico del Rio Balsas) - Bay of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. Considered the most important jet boat marathon in Mexico and one of the most important events of its kind in the Americas, the 34th Balsas River Nautical Marathon covers almost 500 miles in six consecutive days and welcomes international participants from all over the world.

NOV-MAR: Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries (Santuarios de la Mariposa Monarca) - several areas in Michoacan State. Every year, millions of Monarch butterflies migrate from Canada and the U.S. to the Oyamel forests near Angangueo, Michoacan, in the fall, hibernating for winter and mating in the spring. Two sanctuaries are open to the public.

DEC 10: Emily Levine Live - Restaurant Coconuts, Zihauatenjo, GRO. Time-OutNY magazine calls her “zany & brainy,” comedian Emily Levine takes the audience on a e-ride through the universe. 1/2 hour show followed by questions, in the garden at Coconuts. Cover charge.
