Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival gears up for 2006
By Catherine Krantz
The third Annual Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival will be held this year March 26 to April 2, 2006. A week of live music in paradise, this non-profit, fully sponsor funded festival was founded to create a world class international event that would be a tourism draw to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo; to raise cultural awareness and to raise money for art, music and cultural endeavors in the community.
2004 and 2005’s festival beneficiary was the EMEC (La Escuela de Musica de Zihuatanejo Ezekiel Cisneros Cardenas) music school, an ambitious music education project with hopes to soon create a music school to train musicians and music teachers in the state of Guerrero. With funds generated from past festivals, ZI-Guitar Fest AC, the governing body of the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival was able to buy textbooks, furniture and pay the annual rent for a school building in central Zihuatanejo for the EMEC, where classes will begin shortly.
After two successful years of meeting their goals, the third annual Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival with over 20 international musicians scheduled to perform in three concerts, five gala dinners and 10 bars shows is scheduled for March 26 to April 2, 2006.
