Z-Scene

By Judy Brown

SALUTATIONS, EXCITATIONS, GOOD VIBRATIONS
"Saludos" and welcome back to our ZZZensational paradise by the ZZZ! The town is buZZing and it looks and feels like there is a major boom going on. The excitement is palpable what with all the new homes, roads and "tiendas" being built around Playa La Ropa, Z-Town, and Ixtapa. Before returning home to Z, I spent a sensational summer in Seattle visiting the Z-Ever Suave and Stupendous Artiste, Sr. Santiago "El Toro" Sweetface who lives part-time in the Pacifica section of Ixtapa. Upon returning to my family of friends in Zihuatanejo, the enchanting Enrique Zozaya designed Boutique Hotel Amuleto which is owned by Ricardo Teitelroit and Neglia Tonetto of Los Angeles, California was the scene of a surprise birthday party that Judith Whitehead, Cindee and Dan Leo, Tony and Claire Piazza, Publishing Maven Catherine Krantz, and Z-Most Amazing of All Z-Women Margo threw for me. Funny thing...the ghost of Jack Benny was there celebrating his 39th as well! The following week Z-Best Friends, Sandy and Jay Messinger of Boulder, Colorado were in town to celebrate Jay's Happy Happy. Ricardo Rodriguez, owner/chef of Kau Kan Restaurant also runs the restaurant at Amuleto and prepared the ZZZ-licious birthday dinners. The atmosphere at this establishment is exquisite and is worthy of all the praise it has been getting.

SHMOOZZZY, NEWZZZY
After spending a week at their gorgeous home in Troncones, choreographers Jacqui and Bill Landrum of Los Angeles are on their way to celebrate the first time showing of "Cabaret" in Berlin. It is being directed by Vince Patterson who owns property in Majahua. We look forward to their return to paradise in time for Christmas and New Years. Fab musician Aikeke, Director of EMZ (Escuela de Musica de Zihuatanejo), had a busy summer organizing various programs for the school...great work Aikeke! Christian of La Cocina Del Sol in Troncones opened his new take-out Cafe Sol which is doing "kickin'" business! Power Lunching at Villa Del Sol were Z-Extraordinary One "Commander" Judith Whitehead of Paradise Properties, Lois Brown proprietress of the enchanting Villa Zanzibar, Claire Piazza of the Vltava, and Eva owner of Hacienda Eden in Troncones (their grand opening was a huge success). Rocio Madrazo of Galart was having her own Power Lunch at La Cantina with a group of artists from her exclusive gallery.

Z-SIGHTINGS
Dennis Leary, Pauly Shore, Courtney Cox and hubby David Arquette with baby Coco at the Hotel Villa Del Sol. Clothing designer Betsey Johnson playcationing at her home in Barra de Potosi, Alejandro Gonzalez I, director of "Amoros Perros" and "21 Grams" returning to his home in Ixtapa from Los Angeles for a week of writing confabs.

AIN'T LOVE GRANDE
Spencer Loman of Denver, Colorado and Jana Bouldruan of Goshen, Indiana got engaged at the elegant Hotel Las Palmas in Playa Blanca; Rob Whitehead and wife Lupita (with Rob's brother Woodie in attendance) partied at Hotel Amuleto for their fourteenth wedding anniversary; and Helmut Leins and lovely bride Erika celebrated the occasion of their one year anniversary. Congratulations to one and all!

FAVE RAVE
A spectacular four hour drive and we find ourselves in the enchanting lakeside village of Patzcuaro which is one of our very fave places outside of Z. The charming squares, awesome authentic food, colorful crafts, talented artists and most of all the friendly and gentle people of Patzcuaro draw us back time after time. We especially like the restaurant Mistongo where owner Susy delights us with her delicious dishes and good humor. We attended a showing of artist Judith Diem's exotic paintings. Judith is world renowned and has lived in Patzcuaro for thirty five years. A documentary about her life and works was recently shown on the Public Broadcasting System in the U.S.

Join me in welcoming Jose Montilla the new General Manager of the Hotel Villa Del Sol. Sr. Montilla was formerly the owner of the nuevo latino cuisine club "Coconut Joe's" in Syracuse, New York. He was also the manager of the Universal Hilton Hotel in Studio City, Ca. He is full of life and is a welcome new presence in paradise!
