March 2005/38
Welcome to Another Day in Paradise.
It’s March, do you know where your friends are? -- Most likely you haven’t seen them in a while. You know, the ones you could call up any hour of the day and they’d drop everything and run off to the beach with you. The ones that no matter when you’d stop by, were always happy to see you and would stop working and chat a while. You’d often run into them lazing around drinking beer in the afternoon, laughing contentedly or languishing over cocktails at sunset. Where’d they go?
This time of year, the town is full of tourists making merry, while the locals are all hidden away in dark offices scowling at one another or rushing harried-ly between overflowing tables. All your happy friends have dark circles under their eyes and everyone seems a little frazzled. I guess that means it’s been a good season, so we can all exhale, let out a strained high pitched laugh and get back to work. The business of paradise… a topic we occasionally touch on… is a frantic six month marathon, but fear not, I feel we are about to hit our runner’s high. Semana Santa is coming early this year and after that flurry of activity we just have April and the International Guitar Fest, then we can all sleep late. Well that is until school lets out and we get the summer crowds…
So get an office with a view, spend your lunch break walking on the beach or take an hour once a week to remind yourself, that if you have to be working like a dog, at least there’s no better place to be doing it than right here. And you see all those happy people out there having fun… don’t sneer with jealousy … turn off the computer and join them. Ok, I’m going, I’m going !
