Café Chuleto Review
by Lydia Foulkes
February 2004

Having spent many happy days here on vacation over the last eight years, I had had the pleasure of experiencing Chez Paul.

I returned this Christmas, and like many others was saddened by the news of Paul’s passing. It was during a conversation recalling stories about the man himself that I was told that the team who were so loyal to him had decided to carry on his work. A group of friends were looking to check out a new restaurant, so I told them a little piece of history and that I had heard good things about the new venture and off we went to investigate. Leaving La Ropa we headed to town and walked along the fishermen’s walk toward the pier, where Café Chuleto finds itself in very good company, well situated amongst some of Zihua’s esteemed restaurants.

Upon arriving at Café Chuleto - the home of International Cuisine, we were greeted by broad smiles and excellent service. The corner location, with beautiful paintings adorning the walls was complimented by perfect lighting and a pleasant casual ambiance.

The menu created a dilemma for choices however, so to start we tried everything from Mussells to Salads to Tuna with the tastiest wasabi in the history of man. After the first round we were all saying how pleasantly surprised we were, there was a real point of difference between dishes and it seemed to offer a true reflection of Paul’s talents. Onto mains and again, it was a difficult choice as so many sounded delicious. We had and would certainly recommend: the Brandy Shrimps, Linguine, and the Cajun Tuna at the very least. We will have to go back to try the rest of the menu, to make a true decision ! But a return trip is very definitely on the list. We really enjoyed the experience and would encourage all to try it. The service, ambiance and indeed quality of food was superb, a real treat. Café Chuleto offered another great meal and another great memory from paradise.
