VIVA AMOR: It was a glamorous and joyous affair when Michelle Gholdoian and Chris Beerman were married at the Hotel Villa Del Sol. Michelle is the daughter of George Gholdoaian of Huntington Beach and Barra de Potosi, and Patty Gholdoian who lives in the L.A area. The four day affair started with a beach/pool party in Barra de Potosi, and the following night everyone was invited to the rehearsal dinner at Coconuts. The ceremony took place on the beach at the Hotel Villa Del Sol just as a rainbow appeared over the bay and the mesmerized guests basked in the magic of the moment. Friends and family came from far and wide to join in on the fun that included a sumptuous dinner, salsa band, mariachis and fireworks. And to top it off, the lunar eclipse took place during the festivities. One enchanted evening for sure! More Love and Marriage: Francisco Ibarra Rivera of the well-known family who owns La Perla restaurant on Playa de la Ropa, married Marbella Solis at sunset at the popular restaurant, La Perla. It was a civil and religious ceremony attended by dignitaries, friends, and family including the Mayor of Zihuatanejo, Amador Campos and wife Elizabeth who are the groom’s Godfather and Godmother, and others from the Campos family including Chava Campos (our local veterinarian) and Benito Campos. Among the well-wishers were Secretary of City Hall Cristobal Aburto, owner of Ferreteria El Centro, Alfonso Pimental and wife Nora, and lawyer Martin Medina. Owners of Coconuts restaurant Joe and Patsy LoGiudice, Dr. Rogelio Grayeb and lovely wife Saida, Tania of Galeria Maya and daughter Serena, owner of Casa Quitlateca Terry Cahill, Marco of Bandido’s, and Rob Whitehead and wife Lupita Bravo were all smiles as they celebrated with the handsome bride and groom.
BY THE SEA, BY THE SEA, BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA One of our fave places to have lunch is on the patio, in front of the dining room at the Hotel Villa Del Sol. I joined Ms. Extraordinaire Judith Whitehead of Paradise Properties, Tony Ewell from London, uber-dress designer and Paul’s daughter, Stella McCartney and new hubby Alisdhair Willis lunching at my favorite seaside table. Stella and Alisdhair were honeymooning and playcationing outside of town in Buena Vista and lovin’it. Awesome Ann Merritt and hubby Chris Kellogg of Denver, Colo. gave a party at their “swankienda” (borrowed directly from the late Maxine Messinger of the Houston Chronicle, who’s son Jay and daughter-in-law Sandy aka Z-Best Friends have their own “swankienda” here) in Troncones celebrating the second anniversary of their wedding. It was a spectacular affair attended by the local contingency with a few Z-townies thrown in. Godfather of Troncones Dewey and wife Jill, Mike of Manzanillo Bay, Patricia and Bill from Chicago, Pamela who just returned from New Zealand, Ann’s Mom Marian Hatfield, from Phoenix, and Z –Vivacious Lois Brown and hubby David were among the partygoers enjoying the fab food, live band, and mellow vibes. Our other fave Hacienda Eden in Troncones had a happy and happening season opening night hosted by owners Eva and Jim, and Christian who owns the hotel restaurant Cocina Del Sol. To be at Hotel Eden is always to feel special. We especially luv their Sunday bar-b-que, and they are now serving a “choosey” menu during the rest of the week! Happy Birthdays to: Z-Always Amazing Margo, who celebrated with a friends group at El Manglar, a new restaurant beside the crocodile lagoon on Playa La Ropa, owned by “Memo” Armenta Leyva. The atmosphere is laid back and exotic, and Chef Apollo’s dishes are ZZZ-licious.
GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT Mocha Delight: First one gets exfoliated with a mixture of olive oil and coffee grounds, then a mud masque made of cocoa powder, coffee grinds and red clay are applied, and last but not least one is massaged with orange essential oil….all this at Kimberly’s Lavender and Roses beauty salon at the Ixtapa Palace in Ixtapa. Yummmmmm!
TURKEY IN PARADISE John and Carol gave their annual Thanksgiving dinner party at La Gaviota restaurant at the far end of La Ropa. It seemed like the entire town showed up to celebrate and join in on the festivities, with near 200 enjoying the food and fun. Once again La Gaviota proved an excellent party location, gracious staff, plenty of room to mill and mingle and twinkling bay lights for the background. Scintillating Cindee and Dashing Dan Leo of New York and Florida feasted with family at their new “fabienda” which sits high above La Ropa. They have one of the most spectacular views on the planet and we wish them many ZZZ-ensational years in their new and beautiful abode. Bill Underwood joined the Whitehead family and friends Ricardo and Neglia Teitelroit, Gracious Grace and architects Jorge Espinosa de los Monteros and Carlos Desormaux at Judith’s Ixtapa mountaintop condo for some of her turkey feast. Some of the local ex-pats made plans for the Thanksgiving “family feast buffet” (Mesquite grilled turkey with Shari’s special stuffing) at Hotel Las Palmas at Playa Blanca. And as always, Coconuts served up a mouthwatering delight in their beautiful fantasy-lit garden.
WOMEN & GODDESSES Tania Scales hosted a reception at her gallery Galeria Maya to welcome artist Arturo Macias, whose Women & Goddesses sculpture collection is showcased in the gallery, and his wife Margarita who came in from Uruapan, Michoacan. Macias is one of Mexico’s foremost artists and has been winning international accolades for years, this year ranked by New York’s Art and Alliance as one of the top three most important sculptors in the world and in 2001 his piece “Maya” won 4th place in the Florence Biennale. Friends and fans came out to welcome and well wish the gracious couple and admire Macias’ new pieces.
