BIRTHDAY BABES

SHIRLEY BETHUNE, CAROL JUK (of Zihrena Systems) and KRIS VANDERBURG celebrated their birthdays with a ZZZZrific bash held at the Gaviota restaurant on the south end of Playa de La Ropa. We knew this had to be a special night when Z-Always Amazing MARGO and I pulled up and parked next to a white car with pink and blue butterflies on it…later to learn that it belonged to non other than our very own U.S. Consular Agent ELIZABETH WILLIAMS! The night air was glorious, not too hot, just cool enough, black sky, brilliant starZZZ, waves gently lapping on the shoreline. As we entered, salsa dancers TONY & NACHO were putting on a show, and the birthday girls were beaming and looking beautiful, wearing daisy leis made especially for them. Local Dee Jay, DORSO, was playing everything from The Rolling Stones to Ike & Tina, and what looked like the entire village was rocking and rolling up a storm. The lights from El Centro appeared to be having their own party as they danced on the liquid dance floor of Zihuatanejo Bay making it a memorable evening for one and all.

SURPRISE!!!

Birthday surprise lunch at the Hotel Villa Del Sol for Scintillating CINDEE LEO. Toasting the birthday girl with champagne and feasting on lobster were Luscious LOIS, Ms. Extraordinaire JUDITH WHITEHEAD, Captivating CLAIRE of the Vltava, and YourZ Truly. ST. PAT’S and BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: Well wishers extending their best to Glamorous GLORIA BELLACK at the beautiful garden party given by Gloria’s hubby RICHARD. It was the type of setting that one would expect to see ladies in flowing dresses and flowered hats sipping mint juleps and floating across the green; however, true to Z style the tequila was flowing, the guests were as colorful and eclectic as ever and a wide assortment of live musicians played, making for a very happy birthday bash. MORE HAPPY BIRTHDAYS TO: DAVID CONNELL, Z-Beauty ISABEL, CAPT. TONY of the Vltava, Gracious GRACE, BILL FISH and JEFF of Coconuts !

RESTAURANT RAMBLINGS

CANTRAC, the National Restaurant Association of the Greater Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo area which includes Petatlan and Troncones, held a formal banquet in the enchanting garden at Coconuts. THE AUSTIN CONTINGENCY

I’ve often mentioned the many regulars that come to Z from Austin,Tx. and how they have brought a whole new meaning to the word Texas. A very positive one at that! ONE ENCHANTED EVENING: Sassy CISSY and hubby RICK were cocktailing it at Casa Cuitlateca with Cissy’s sister LYNN YARGER and hubby SKIP and friends KURT and BARBARA SHAW with son IAN from St. Louis, Mo. After watching the sunset they went across the street to wine and dine at the Kau Kan and finish off the perfect evening . Also Sipping The Night Fantastic at Kau Kan were Z-Best Friends and Fun Couple SANDY and JAY MESINGER with guests TOM and TERESA KOBY from Boulder, Colo. Tom was the former police chief in Boulder during that now famous murder case, and he and Teresa are returning to playcation in Z for the second year in a row. THE GOV’S ALL HERE: Lunching at the Hotel Villa Del Sol and causing a bit of excitement was Governor of Guerrero, RENE JUAREZ CISNEROS, with local political honchos. WHAT A BOAR: BILL UNDERWOOD and galpal KATHY LUHRSEN of Huntington Beach, Ca. and JOANNE and TOM COLLINS (por favor, no jokes) from Granada Hills, Ca. were dining on wild boar that was prepared especially for them at Paul’s Restaurant. BY THE SEA: MONA FELTS from Connecticut and Z, experiencing the Sumptuous Sunday Bar-B-Que at CHRISTIAN’S La Cocina del Sol at Hacienda Eden which is on the beach at Manzanillo Bay in Troncones.

FYI

The exhibition of original art work by GINGER CARAWAY at Orlando’s Bar in the Hotel Villa Del Sol, given by ROCIO MADRAZO of Galart, was a colorful feast for the eyes. Ginger hails from Austin (natch!) and is an accredited teacher of the popular course “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” and “The Color Course, An Introduction to Color Mixing and Theory”. She lives part of the year in her home in Troncones and teaches both courses in Mexico and Texas. THE FRENCH CONNECTION: JOCLEYN RANUCCI from Paris, France in town visiting long time friends JOELLLE LIDOURE owner of La Fuente and Micmac in Ixtapa, JUDITH WHITEHEAD Proprietress of Paradise Properties, KIMBERLY of Lavendar and Roses Beauty Salon and Spa, and NAHID PEZESHKIAN of Los Angeles, Ca. JET SETTER: Internationally famous artist JULIAN SCHNABEL and family were here in Z to soak up the rays and play in the surf at Playa de La Ropa.
