Troncones: Beach Homes Beautiful
by Lisa B. Martin
March 2003

Just 25 minutes north of Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa is the lovely beach colony of Troncones (meaning ‘trunks” for the many giant stumps that used to wash up there). Settled only in the last few decades by locals and pioneering international visitors seeking their own piece of paradise, Troncones is loved for its broad, clean beach and pounding surf, popular with the board-bearing crowd. Troncones today is a small village of only about 500 inhabitants, a dozen or so restaurants and lovely B & B’s, and fewer than 100 homes on lovely private beachfront lots. A trip by bus or taxi or an overnight stay in Troncones will forever stand in your best memories of Mexico.

Following are photos of four magical and very distinctive homes in tranquil Troncones.

One of the newest additions to Troncones is La Biblioteca de Troncones, a community library built less than two years ago by resident Barbara Lindlan in memory of her husband Harry. Adjacent to the local school as it was Bob and Barb’s goal to make a difference in the lives of the 70 or so town school children, The Harry Lindlan Memorial Library is open almost daily to residents and visitors, as well as for school activities. It holds a lovely collection of almost 1,200 Spanish and English books for all ages, puzzles and games, a small video collection and player, and 5 computers for educational and research use.

It was Barbara Lindlan’s idea to host a Troncones “Parade of Homes” tour in February, 2003 to create more awareness and fundraising for the new library. Future tours are planned and include a viewing of select private homes, as well as lunch.

For more info on supporting the library and upcoming tour dates, contact Barbara at local tel: 755-55-32814, bellovista50@hotmail.com
