IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR

Z-Lively LEONORA had her annual New Year’s Eve soiree at her guesthouse above Playa La Ropa and Z- Partygoers were lovin’ it. RICK and SASSY CISSY came in all the way from Puebla where they were taking a vacation (from their vacation) in order to welcome in the New Year with all their Z -friends. LEONORA'S shrimp and crab filled mushrooms were fab as were BRIAN and TAMARA’S Thai dipping sauce along with JOHN and CAROL’S veggies. Dashing DAVID BROWN made his famous Thai chicken and TANIA contributed the delicious deviled eggs. TONY, CLAIRE and ERICA brought mouthwatering hor’duerves and ABBY made pasta salad that no one could put down. Z-Best Friends SANDY and JAY MESINGER who are now “official” part-time residents of Z brought their hors d’oeuvres secret recipe “surprise”. CARL was a headturner wearing an over-the-top festive orange shirt made in Lithuania (?!), and Luscious LOIS and Hostess With The Mostest LEONORA were all glam and glitter for the second year in a row as they tied for the “Sparkle Plenty Award”. Also joining the group were Conneryesque (or is it Hemingwayesque?.. you tell me) BILL UNDERWOOD, JUDY, ED, HUW and ANA ISABEL who came in from a surfing and yoga retreat in Saladita, Seattle TOM, Z-Gracious GRACE looking Gorgeous in her silvery frock and “hijo” Movie Star Handsome WINTER. Adorable DAWN and hubby VICTOR, Publishing Maven CATHERINE, and ELOISE and ALEJANDRA were all smiles as were BRIAN “the Kayak Dude”and PIERRE who started the first Kayak business here in Z. “Honeymooners” DON and BETTY, TOM and JUDY from Canada, and MARY and DAVID from Chicago were among the guests enjoying the fireworks over the bay and PHILLIP from Oregon playing tunes on his guitar until the wee hours of the morning.

MIDNIGHT MADNESS: Z-Always Amazing MARGO and her “hijas” CHELAN, TURQUESA, MALI and LULU were enjoying the New Year’s Eve blast at COCONUTS as were as granddaughter NADIA and my “hijas” CHELSEA and JESSIE, the Mesinger’s JOSH, ADAM, JESS and HILLARY and Z-Enigmatic JEREMY PAZ, WINTER and JEFFREY STANTON from Houston rounding out the group. They were joined by lots of happy guests who were swaying and swinging to the Latin Jazz of Z-Awesome AIKEKE and welcoming in the New Year 2003!

PARTY ON: The New Years Eve/Housewarming celebration hosted by JOSEPH ESFORMES and his beautiful wife TOMASINA from Malibu, Ca. at their “fabienda” Casa Tomasina in Puerto Mio, was an elegant affair. The exquisite “casa” is the latest work of art by architect ENRIQUE ZOZAYA in collaboration with well known Latin Antique dealers and decorating team, SAM SAUNDERS and ED HOLLER of Morelia, Michoacan and Nogales,Az. The formal affair was attended by friends who came from all parts of the globe and included the PULITZER’S from St. Louis, Mo as well as several local invitees including AHARON CHEN of Playa Blanca, OLGA LIMON from Mexico City, attorney BERT FIELDS and wife BARBARA GUGGENHEIM and Z- Extraordinary One JUDITH WHITEHEAD proprietress of Paradise Properties. A smashing time was had by all ringing in the New Year.

ZEN-SATIONAL

We’ve been hearing lots of raves about ZEN, the very hip nightclub in Ixtapa, so we popped in to see what the buZZ was all about. Located at the foot of the Radisson Hotel one passes through enormous hand carved doors and is treated to a feast for the eyes and ears, not to mentions the drinker’s palate. Zen offers thirty different types of martinis! The unique paintings of well known Mexican artist MARIO BARON cover the walls and a large screen showing various video and movie scenes makes it interesting wherever one looks. The club was opened two years ago by owners IKER UGARTE and RICARDO MUELLER who also designed the lovely interior. Resident DeeJay MARCOS FERNANDEZ from Argentina spins the latest house grooves as do a host of other guest DeeJay’s from Europe, Mexico and the U.S. The vibe is low key and cool with a surprisingly intimate feel. The doors open at 10 pm and sometimes close as late as 10 am the next morning…or so I’m told!

SPIRIT IN THE SKY:

Kudos for the friendly and helpful workers at the Alaska ticket counter at the newly re-furbished Zihuatanejo International Airport. CRISTINA SOTELLO and JUAN CARLOS RIOS are among the Alaska employees who are always courteous, helpful and pleasant. While waiting for friends to arrive I ran into JEREMY PAZ and the beautiful NARA who were welcoming CAROL NYSTROM and JERRY LIEBOWITZ in from L.A. They were all singing praise about the Alaska Reps and I completely concur. Hence, this blurb.

BIRTHDAY BASH

GRACE gave a Happy Happy 20th birthday bash for son WINTER at La Condessa Restaurant in Barra de Potosi. She had the kitchen cook up a 25 lb. Dorado which I can attest to being the best fish I have ever tasted. Lots of friends and family attended the celebration and GRACE made a sinfully delicious chocolate cake for the occasion which went perfectly with the sinful mescal!

FROM THE HEART

A heartfelt thanks to one and all for coming out for the jewelry fashion show in La Cantina at the Hotel Villa Del Sol for my first showing of Z-Collection, arranged and hosted by ROCIO MADRAZO of Galart. ROCIO worked so hard to put this together and it was a huge success. A special thanks to the beautiful models who I hear were the talk of the beach the next day. It was so special to have my daughters JESSIE and CHELSEA, MARGO’S girls MALI AND TURQUESA, LUPITA’S daughter VALERIA, PATY’s daughter NARA and MARIA, a new friend from Russia and recent graduate from Oxford, participate in the event. They were charming, lovely and friendly and the patrons reportedly were delighted. Thank you to all my friends and extended Z-Family. I felt the love.

Have A Wonderful Year
