Sailfest 2003
by Lisa Martin
After over three months of planning by dozens of land and sea-based volunteers, the second annual Zihua SailFest 2003 raced into Bahia Zihua January 29 to February 1, raising over $11,500 for the local bilingual Netzahualcoyotl Indian School. A whopping $23,000 resulted as, once again, the funds were “matched” by Richard and Gloria Bellack’s Bellack Education Foundation (Ixtapa/San Diego). Kudos to Rick and Heike Carpenter of Rick’s Bar for being SailFest HQ, Zihua Port Captain for all his help, Las Gatas Beby Lisa Martin

At the Sail Parade from Zihua to Ixtapa, 61 boats flew their beautiful billowing sails and colors for all to enjoy. A generous cash gift by Bill Underwood boosted revenues, and the Underwood Foundation pledged support for SailFest 2004, already pegged for Jan 29 – Feb 1 (tune into www.zihua-ixtapa.com/sailfest for ongoing news and pics).
