THE GOOD LIFE:
Gourmet critic GARY IBSEN was in town staying in PATSY and JOE LOGIUDICE’S charming Studio Casa Luna. Gary who hails from Carmel, Ca. wrote the best selling “Great Tomato Book” and is known as “the tomato king”. Guesting at world renowned artist JOSE LUIS CUEVAS’ beachside villa in Buena Vista was famous Mexican cultural and societal T.V. commentator PATRICIA CAPOZA. FYI: Master modern artist DAVID SALLE and French girlfriend SARA spotted at the Hotel Villa Del Sol as was Mercedes Benz Mogul FRANCINE REHWALD playcationing here from St. Monica, Ca. Francie is co-owner of Simonson Mercedes in St.Monica which is one of the oldest and most respected dealerships in the U.S. Her daughter MINKA and boyfriend BRIAN, who were on a break from Bard University were also in Z enjoying the exotic and “rustica” ambiance of Casa de las Piedras, as was KEVIN who is employed at the famous French Laundry restaurant in Napa,Ca. The group was taken on a kayaking excursion by BRIAN the “Kayak Dude” and Francie, who is a serious birder and kayaker, reported that BRIAN was a “Z-ensational” guide filled with information even SHE didn’t know! MORE INFO: The Valentine’s Day showing of ARTHUR KOBY’S jewelry art pieces at ROCIO MADRAZO’S Galart at the Hotel Villa Del Sol was a joy to behold. Arthur’s work is exquisite and inspirational just like the artist himself.
BY THE SEA, BY THE SEA, BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA
A group of beach-lovers including Z-Best Friends SANDY and JAY MESINGER, PATRICK and JAVIER from Beverly Hills, Ca. GRACE, ROSEMARY and RAY from Aspen, Colo., STEPHANIE and EDWARD from Denver, Colo., Z-Always Amazing MARGO, LULU, and AARCO the Burro, MONICA and HUGO from Acapulco, and Z-Pup BOB MARLEY with Companion KEMPO had a cookout on Manzanillo Beach which was as Z-licious as any of the best restaurants in town. The water was blue-er than blue and the snorkeling was akin to being in an aquarium. We even played Bingo while relaxing in the shade of the Manzanillo Tree which was only steps from the water. It was a two “thumbs up” day! TRONCONES HAPPENINGS: A happening at PATRICIA and BILL’S Hotel Atlantis saw ANA MARINA who was former house-poet at La Mama’s in N.Y. give her 2nd poetry reading, accompanied by AIKEKE on the xylophone . Talent Agent ALFREDA from Detroit, MI. was in attendance and the guests were loving the performance, setting and vibe. Meanwhile at Hotel Eden’s, L.A. Celebrity Chef DWAYNE was bar-b-q-ing up a storm for JUDITH WHITEHEAD of Paradise Properties and entourage as well as other happy guests at the popular hotel and eatery Cocina Del Sol. SAILING SAILING: By the way, does anyone know who that guy was in a speedy motor boat hot-doggin’ alongside the sailing vessels on the day of the Sail Fest???? He had some James Bondish looking hotties with him. Could it have been Sean Connery????
BIRTHDAY BASH
Congratulations to OWEN LEE on celebrating his 75th Birthday at his Las Gatas Beach Club with a large group of enthusiastic well-wishers who were entertained by flamenco guitarist ERIC, and trio ROBERTO, ERIC & LIONEL who play at Daniel’s on the beach. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SURPRISE: A surprise birthday party for long time semi-permanent resident , GENE “the Beer Drinking Machine” was hosted by LINDA FOX and KATHY TEAGUE at Casa Arcadia. More than 30 locals attended the bash including Dear SANFORD, who at 96 years young can party with the best of ‘em. MORE HAPPY HAPPIES: DAWN of Lulu Jones Cosmetics in Z who had a birthday party at Arbolito’s on Playa Principal. Attendees included Hubby VICTOR who has the jet ski concession next to Rossy’s on Playa La Ropa, KIMBERLY of Lavender and Roses Beauty Salon in Ixtapa and hubby GONZALO owner of the water sports concession next to Hotel Villa del Sol, BEV and ANDY GREEN and JENN of Gondwana restaurant. MARCOS from Bandidos Restaurant sent over a birthday surprise and the birthday girl was as happy as can be as were all of the other guests.
HERE A CHICK, THERE A CHICK, EVERYWHERE A CHICK- CHICK
LOIS BROWN’S 4th annual “Chick Party” upstairs at the beautiful Villa Zanzibar was the best yet. It was a smashing success with well over one hundred local and out-of-town babes in attendance. To see all those Z-rrrrific women in one room serves to validate how Z got the reputation of having the most interesting and beautiful women in all of Mexico, IF NOT THE WORLD! Just callin’ it like it is!!
LOVE & MARRIAGE
TONY and CLAIRE PIAZZA of the Vltava hosted the surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary party of CLAIRE’S parent’s JAY & MONIQUE FRANKSTON of Mendocino, Ca. The celebration was held at their newly built “fabienda” which sits high above Zihuatanejo Bay. Friends and family flew in from across the U.S. to participate in what poet, JAY FRANKSTON termed, “An explosion of light and love.” Attendees included the MAILMAN family from New York City, BETTY BARBER, GRAIL DAWSON and MIRIAM JACOBS of Mendocino, Ca, ZET CASTELS from Coconut Grove, Fl, TACIE LOWE from Stony Creek, Ct, CLAIRE’S brother DANIEL and girlfriend ELEANOR from San Fransisco, Ca. and scores of local friends. The partygoers were entertained by the Ballet Folklorico Mexico Tenochtitlan who perform at the Pacifica Hotel in Ixtapa and singer/guitarist MIGUEL ANGEL RADILLA who sang a romantic set in honor of the couple. The joyous celebration went on until the wee hours of the morning and everyone had a blast.
