Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo Total Tag & Release Tournament
November 7, 8, 9, 2001
Ixtapa Sportfishing Charters along with the Mexican Tourism Promotions board announce the Ixtapa Zihuatanjeo fishing tournament. Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has recently received the distinction as being named as one of the top five most popular Sailfishing spots in the world and this location is quickly becoming the new Crown Jewel of Mexican Sportfishing destinations.
This year's event will include both an offshore and inshore fly fishing only division which has been recognized and accepted as a qualifying event for the Rolex/IGFA Tournament of Champions. Qualified spotters or judges will be provided by the tournament since the tournament has adopted a total tag & release format. To access tournament rules, regulations, entry fees and calcuttas, interested anglers can access the tournament web site at www.ixtapasportfishing.com/tournament/.
Discounted air fares are being offered by Aeromexico airlines which is one of the presenting sponsors of this year's event. Other sponsors include Cabelas Outfitters, Yamaha Marine, Ande Line, Nekton Inc, Sun Dot Flags and more. The Riviera Beach Resort will be the host property for this year's event and the hotel has extended an offer of $85.00 per night for a single or double room. This rate includes: a 7th night free, breakfast or box lunch and all domestic drinks from 10 am to 11 pm. A full itinerary of events including daily cocktail parties and a gala awards dinner are included in the team entry fee.
Stan Lushinsky and Susan Richards, owners of Ixtapa Sportfishing Charters and this year's tournament directors, are available to answer any questions regarding the tournament as well as make bookings for air, land, and participating boat charters.

Fintastic's Third Annual Tag and Release Tournament
November 15, 16, 17, 2001
Three years ago there were only two total tag and release tournaments in the world. The Flamingo event in Costa Rica and Fintastic's tournament in Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo were the pioneers to setting a trend for total tag and release billfish tournaments worldwide. The Fintastic Tournament is still the only offshore total tag and release tournament in Mexico, which is sanctioned by the International Billfish Foundation Association (IGFA).
This year's Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo tournament will be held on November 15,16, and 17, 2001. Again, the winner will receive an invitation to fish and compete in the coveted Rolex / IGFA Offshore Tournament of Champions located in Cabo San Lucas on March 19-25, 2002. Since our original Fintastic tournament in 1999, the IGFA has adopted the same format for their subsequent qualifying tag and release tournaments. Through its preservation policy, Fintastic earned the right to be, and is now listed as a corporate sponsor in the IGFA Annual Report for 2001. This is quite an honor and we are proud to represent Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo as the only organization to be listed. This tournament is set up such that the average angler from anywhere will be able to compete. A big roll of cash and a large sportfisher is not needed. A local panga and an average fishing holiday can get you in. There is only one major prize. But some cash and other things, like dinners and gear for your captain, and three great days on the water make it worth your while.
This year the entire event will be held in Zihuatanejo. A captain's meeting followed by a cocktail party will be held on November 14 and awards passed out on the evening of the 17th. Come join us for a good time. "Play With The Big Boys" and win one of only 75 invitations to be issued worldwide for the Rolex/IGFA Offshore Championship, where you can fish with the best in the world.
If you wish to join us, contact Ed Kunze at 554-4876 or if stateside, Paul Phillips at 250-768-3537 .
