Meet the Captains - Santiago
aptain Santiago Valdovinos Olea owns and operates the panga Gitana. The Gitana was one of the pangas, along with the Tequila and Sequestro Amor that caught on fire and was totaled this year. The fire was a real blow to these men. But, thanks to donations from many generous people and a good following of clients who pre-paid for future trips, the pangas are rebuilt and back in the water. Even though more money is needed to get them out of debt, they are at least fishing and have the ability to work.

Daytrips & Diversions - More Birding in Zihuatanejo
If you are one of those birders that has to be on station the moment the sun comes up and you like to bird till it's dark, I have two spots for you while you're down here on vacation. How about an hour or two the very first thing in the morning and then an hour or two just before the sun goes down. Me, I like to have my morning coffee and relax before I go out looking for birds.

Z-Scene - November 2001
HAPPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN:

Bases were loaded at LA PERLA as were many of the guests watching the World Series at the TV Bar in the famous restaurant on Playa de la Ropa...

Mr. Nice Guy Answers a Prayer
It was just about a year ago that George Howard of Chicago, Illinois, and Gonzalo Valdovinas Gonzalez of Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan, met at a barbecue in Ixtapa. Gonzalez, a young man in his twenties, handicapped by polio, is an enthusiastic bicycle racer who had hoped to enter the Special Olympics to be held next year in Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately, his hand-maneuvered bicycle did not fit his body right, nor did it handle well.

Crabilitos, Amigos!
The sun had barely peered over the jungle from its place of nightly concealment when the giant crabs were sighted emerging from the depths of the cool earth. Armed with the weapons of warfare and as much Gringo bravado as we could muster, we prepared to mount our first all out offensive.

Notes from the Consulate - Area Code Changes
New Area Codes will affect all calls coming into Mexico, Local Calls will be unaffected since we've already changed to including 554, 553.... with the exception of cell numbers which will require the additional "55" prefix...
