Netzahualcoyotl School Update

by Lisa Martin

Construction of the new buildings for the Netzahualcoyotl school for indigenous children moves forward, well supported by the local and tourist communties alike. In addition to some grant funding from Rotary International, over $3,000 was raised at a Zihua community fundraiser at Villa Del Sol Cantina on Feb 28 and March 1, 2002. Local businesses and friends of the school donated dozens of items and gift certificates for sale, and about 20 of the school children came in traditional costumes to sing songs and read by Lisa Martin

Almost 30 “cruisers” from the sailboating community pitched in with local families and other tourists to help clean the new school campus in February, too. The entire project is becoming a great source of pride for all involved.
