Local Water Sports Guide - Alberca Olympica

This column will be regularly highlighting some of the great water sports activities available in the area. From bay sports like catamaran sailing, snorkeling and kayaking to off shore sailing, fishing and scuba diving. Not to mention excellent surfing just up the coast. Zihautanejo has it all. With our warm water and protected harbour Zihuatanejo really is a paradise for the water sports enthusiast. Also with the Pacific Ocean just outside the bay and 2 marinas in the area,

Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo has much to offer anyone who likes to get out on the water.

Featured in this issue, the new Olympic sized swimming pool in Zihuatanejo. Brand new and never crowded. What better way to enjoy your water activities than to feel a little stronger in the water. Sometimes its hard to get out and swim in the bay, with swell and boats to contend with. So why not join the pool & do a few laps. Located just up from the post office & next to the Fibazi offices the new pool is worth a visit. You will need a certificate of health, obtained from the local medical centre for $20 pesos, and 2 passport style photos for your membership. The cost is $50 pesos per month. 20 laps is one kilometer, 33 laps is one mile.

So why not give it a go. The water is clean and the whole facility is brand new. If you go in the morning you may well be the only one there.
